Gothenburg-Oslo Cooperation

The Gothenburg-Oslo cooperation with the slogan "Two countries, one region" was the first of its kind in Europe. The cooperation was launched in 1995 following a partnership agreement between the Norwegian city of Oslo and the Swedish city Gothenburg. In 2003 the agreement was expanded to include the counties of Akershus and Østfold on the Norwegian side and Västra Götaland on the Swedish side.

The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of the region around Gothenburg and Oslo. Thematically the cooperation focuses on issues in the fields of communications and transportation, business development, research, culture, tourism and education. One of the most important parts of the project now is the expansion of the railway line between Oslo and Gothenburg to full double tracks which will reduce the journey time from four to two hours by the end of 2019.
