COINCO

Corridor Of Innovation And Cooperation

COINCO is a multi-level and multi sectorial collaboration family mostly supported by EU-funding. It based on COINCO III B project 2005 – 2007. This project family is orientated on development on a co-operation area which was started by Scandinavian Arena including the Öresundregion, the Göteborg/Oslo-Region around 2000. Infrastructural aim was to reach the better connecting of the former TEN-T Axis 11 and 12 (Nordic Triangle) with the whole TEN-T net. At the final conference of the first COINCO project in March 2007, a high level paper called “COINCO Charter” was signed and became the basis for a lot of following co-operating activities.

COINCO NORTH I & COINCO NORTH II (8 Million City)

COINCO North I and II are two generations of Interreg projects, established by the same regional public partners – except the German partners – and they focus on the high-speed train connection between Oslo and Malmö/Copenhagen – The Scandinavian 8 Million City.

The main goals of the project was to promote sustainable economic growth by reducing travel time, create new arenas for business cooperation, stimulate closer academic cooperation and strengthen the marketing of the region as an attractive place to live, visit, invest in and locate new business.

The main outcomes of the project are a common understanding of the transport and the situation of development of trade and industry in the region and the development of a knowledgebase that can lead to a more effective transport system and reduced travel time within the region.

The COINCO North partners decided to continue the cooperation in the frame of COINCO North II – The Scandinavian 8 Million City. The main goals of COINCO North II to promote sustainable economic growth by reducing travel time, to create new arenas for business cooperation, to stimulate closer academic cooperation and to strengthen the marketing of the region as an attractive location are the same as in COINCO North I.

With this motivation, the COINCO North II project takes a strategic approach and will, by illustrating the benefits of a world class green and multimodal transport system, secure that the national authorities in Denmark, Sweden and Norway reach a common decision regarding investments in Inter City and High Speed Rail.

In cooperation with the GreCOR project – Green Corridor in the North Sea Region – the action plan for the development of the green corridor: Oslo – Randstad was developed.

COINCO South is a private initiative and the first project of the COINCO GmbH. It focuses on the southern part of the corridor.

COINCO South is dealing transportation and energy issues and how one can get the larger part of Scandinavia, including the Stockholm region, better connected with the European continent, via Stralsund to Berlin. The idea of a fixed link under the Baltic Sea (tunnel) that combines infrastructure for modern rail transportation- energy transfer- and perhaps ICT-networks is central in the project.
