BSR Transport projects at Connecting Europe Days

The three projects organised an own stand during the Connecting Europe Days , that were held 21-22 September in the Estonian capital Tallinn.




The Connecting Europe Days organised by the Estonian EU Presidency and the European Commission, DG MOVE were focusing on future financing of the Connecting Europe Facility.

Commissioner Violeta Bulc underlined the importance of the European transport network as the backbone of European Economy and made aware of the difficult negotations between about the Multiannual Financial Framework in the coming months. She as well as Kadri Simson, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of the Republic of Estonia, as well as other speakers from the European Parliament repeatedly acknowledged, that TEN-T and Connecting Europe Facility were enormous successful in delivering the envisaged results. Main potential they saw in the streamlining of different funding opportunities and demanded simplified instruments.

During the discussions it became again and again evident, that the urban node concept is an important brickstone of the entire network as there economic growth is generated and the regions are connected to the TEN-T network. Some speakers demanded to refine the definition of urban nodes from currently rather technical understanding to a more functional one, including greater metropolitan areas.

Violeta Bulc and Herald Ruijters, Director Investment, Innovative & Sustainable Transport, DG Mobility and Transport, European Commission asked the participants to get active towards their national politicla decision makers in governments and parliaments.
