Road in the Lead

Scandria®2Act investigations on multimodal transport

Road transport further gained since 2006

Several Scandria®2Act investigations on the potential for multimodal transport povide evidence that there is more than sufficient volumes to be shifted from road to more environmentally sound transport modes.
Since 2006, road transport gained more market share in long distance freight transport than other modes as rail or sea.
Thus setting up new multimodal services is a challenging task under current market conditions.

From 2016 to 2017, the Swedish Transport Administration and ROSTOCK PORT investigated freight traffic passing through the port of Rostock and 10 Swedish ports by interviewing 2,300 truck drivers.

Scania’s freight hubs expected to continue their growth. But modal shift to reach environmental and climate goals might be difficult to reach without further action a recent study reveals that was commissioned by Region Skane within the Scandria®2Act project.

More than sufficient volume at hand for a new ferry / RoRo or rail services to Greater Oslo region.

Learning clean fuel lessons

Scandria®2Act partners analysed the experiences made in the past, such as how municipalities can finance clean fuel infrastructure, whether a multi-fuel station is a good idea and how electric mobility in city logistics can be introduced.
